Benefits - iPads in Schools
"Today it seems the 'handhelds' of choice for education are the iPod touch and iPad. Use these devices along with other kinds of computers for education and you've got mobile learning. Mobile learning can happen anywhere: in a classroom, at the dining room table, on a bus, in front of a science exhibit, at the zoo…anywhere! Portability is not as important as the ability of the learner to connect, communicate, collaborate, and create using tools that are readily available."

"School leaders say the iPad is not just a cool new toy but rather a powerful and versatile tool with a multitude of applications, including thousands with educational uses. 'If there isn’t an app that does something I need, there will be sooner or later.'”
"In Millburn, N.J., students at South Mountain Elementary School have used two iPads purchased by the parent-teacher organization to play math games, study world maps and read “Winnie the Pooh.” Scott Wolfe, the principal, said he hoped to secure 20 more iPads next school year to run apps that, for instance, simulate a piano keyboard on the screen or display constellations based on a viewer’s location. 'I think this could very well be the biggest thing to hit school technology since the overhead projector,' Mr. Wolfe said."
"Many school officials say they have been waiting for technology like the iPad. 'It has brought individual technology into the classroom without changing the classroom atmosphere,' said Alex Curtis, headmaster of the private Morristown-Beard School in New Jersey, which bought 60 iPads for $36,000 and is considering providing iPads to all students next fall."
"Daniel Brenner, Roslyn (New York) superintendent, said the iPads would also save money in the long run by reducing printing and textbook costs; the estimated savings in the two iPad classes are $7,200 a year. 'It’s not about a cool application,” Dr. Brenner said. “We are talking about changing the way we do business in the classroom.'”

"Every pupil at Cedars School of Excellence, in Greenock, Scotland, is now armed with an iPad, creating an environment a world away from the typical 'computer room', and providing the potential for seamless integration of technology and traditional teaching."
"On the first day, it ran and ran. I couldn't make the battery die, and I realized this alone would transform the technology experience in the classroom."
"With many of the school's teachers being iPhone owners, few needed convincing."
"When the discussion turns to specific use-scenarios for the iPad, it's clear Apple's 'there's an app for that' approach could revolutionize the classroom."
"It's also crucial to consider the technology 'everyday' and not 'special.' For example, it's important to not use the iPad as a reward. Technology is the way we do business – it's how we teach. It's not a reward for doing traditional education well."

"'I believe that all kids need to be technology literate, whether they're five or 15,' Morgan Elementary School's Julie Gargus said. She is a kindergarten teacher at the school and has her students use the iPad on a regular basis. 'I'm still doing the teaching but it gives them opportunities to reinforce those skills for students who don't grasp the skills the first time. It gives them that extra practice,' Gargus said. She added that the programs the kids use on the iPad drive home important lessons learned in the classroom."

"I can't tell you which device we'll be using in 2012. I can't tell you how long its battery will last, or how much memory it will have or what the interaction model will be. I can tell you some long-term big trends that I'll bet on right now:
I don't much care if, in five years, we're using Android tablets - as long as those Android tablets last longer, are easier to use and deploy, are better and cheaper than an iPad. If future devices deliver information faster and better than an iPad, then we'll switch to those devices."

- Pupils and teachers will never wish they had fewer computers.
- Pupils and teachers will never wish their devices had shorter battery life than the iPad.
- Pupils and teachers will never wish that their internet access was slower.
- Pupils and teachers will never want a device that's harder to use than the iPad.
- Teachers will never want to have to go to a special classroom to use The Computers.
- Nobody will want a device that's more expensive and less capable than the iPad.
- Nobody will want to carry around a device that's significantly heavier than the iPad all day.
- Schools will not want to deploy a device that requires more tech support than an iPad.
